Updated: Dreamweaver CS3 hangs on “initializing files” in Windows Vista Home Premium
I noticed this7 error in Windows Vista Home Premium. When you launch Dreamweaver CS3, it opens the splash screen, displays “initializing files” and thats it.
Necessary Troubleshooting steps we’re already done to attempt to launch/fix the program but to no avails.
The troubleshooting steps below didn’t work.
1. Recreate Registry file: HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>ADOBE>Dreamweaver (renamed to Dreamweaver old)
2. Open Dreamweaver on Selective Startup mode (http://www.adobe.com/go/kb401454)
3. Turn off ALL anti virus software; firewall and windows Firewall.
4. Troubleshooting Dreamweaver for Windows (http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_15481)
I’m not sure if this is a bug though. But to think that it’s only happening in Windows Vista Home Premium.
Here’s an update for the fix (Thanks to James from the comment section)
For Acer Users, you can try to uninstall the Acer E-Data Security Management from the Add/Remove programs and it should fix the problem. I will still confirm this solution if I’ll get more comments that will confirm that they were able to fix the problem by uninstalling the Acer E-Data Security Management.
Sid how bad do you want change

May 11th, 2008 at 9:09 am
I have the exact same problem! Running Windows Vista Home Premium. All my other cs3 applications work, except Dreamweaver, which closes at the “initializing files” stage. Any solution to this would be great!
May 12th, 2008 at 2:40 am
Hi, same problem here in Italy, on the Acer Aspire 8920g, even with the italian version of the program.
Dreamweaver CS3 stops loading and then crashes when showing “Inizializzazione di File in corso…”
May 12th, 2008 at 3:08 am
So far the problem is isolated with acer computers and windows vista home premium.
@James & Pasquale - is it possible for you guys to post here the specs of your machine. The information can be helpful you know. I’ll try to forward that to the engineering asap. Thanks!

Acer 8920g:
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (but someone has the same problems with T8300 too)
4GB DDR2
nVidia GeForce 9500M GS 512MB
2 x 250GB HD
May 12th, 2008 at 4:06 am
Anyway, i have a Acer Aspire 7720g and i don’t have any problem installing and running Dreamweaver CS3.
So i think only the new 8920g and 6920g series has this problem.
May 12th, 2008 at 4:07 am
P.S. i have both 7720g and 8920g
May 12th, 2008 at 4:58 am
I have Acer Aspire 5920G
Intel Core 2 Duo T5550
4GB DDR2
ATI Radeon HD 3470 256MB
May 12th, 2008 at 6:08 am
ok, i can’t believe it but…. maybe the fact that we are using 4GB of RAM (that Vista can’t recognize) could means something…..
Maybe we shoud try to use only 2GB and install again the program…
I was sure it was hapening only on the 8920g and 6920g series but the only thing that seems to be in common are 4GB of ram.
P.S. on my 7720g i have 3GB DDR2 ram and Dreamweaver CS3 works fine.
May 12th, 2008 at 9:01 am
@ Pasquale and Nick - ok thanks for the information. I’ll try to forward these infos that you sent and I’ll let you know as soon as there is an update. But it seems that the problem is happening on 4gb of RAM huh..
May 12th, 2008 at 9:17 am
I have found the problem! It is related to the ‘Acer E-Data Security Management program. I uninstalled this program and Dreamweaver now runs!! I checked the Windows event viewer and the problem was related to a file within the Acer E-Data Security Management program.

May 12th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Ok so it’s problematic on 4 gigs of ram, is that generic or built in? does the ram has a specific brand?
May 13th, 2008 at 12:40 am
how can I see which brand my RAM is?
May 13th, 2008 at 4:13 am

May 13th, 2008 at 3:58 pm
Hi admin, I’m not english and I’ve not clearly understood you question… Sorry
I think you asked to me if I’ve done some stuff after uninstalling acer e-data? Well, I’ve simply removed that program and started dwcs3.
Ciao!

Thanks for the clarification. It helps a lot!

Hey guys I have a acer with 2 gigs and having that problem … is there anyway around the uninstalling the e-data software ? as i like to have the option to restore if needed
May 18th, 2008 at 11:26 pm
@henry - sorry for the late reply, so far we havent find any work around yet to make it work without uninstalling the edata software.
May 22nd, 2008 at 7:44 am
I uninstalled Acer E-Data Security Management and Dreamweaver works now, thanks.
I wonder exactly what was the error…. was the Acer software locking files, or restricting read privileges i wonder?
I have just got my PC yesterday, so i have no idea what the Acer E-Data Security Management was for anyway!
May 22nd, 2008 at 10:04 am
@Red - I’m glad it worked for you
May 25th, 2008 at 10:39 am
Hi,
I had the same Problem with an Acer Extensa 5620G. After removing the Acer E-Data Security Management Dreamweaver CS3 starts without any problems

Yes!!! I was going mad trying to fix this problem. I have the Aspire 8920G with 4GB Ram. Must have tried every other fix on the internet, now after uninstalling E-Data everything works! Was was that stupid program for anyway? Just to create problems? I hope Acer take note of this and fix their software for future releases.
Thanks for the advise.
May 26th, 2008 at 3:08 am
@neo and glauco - im glad that this post helped you out. I hope more people can get this fix too. tc!
May 26th, 2008 at 9:31 am
THANK YOU!
I just had the exact same problem - I typed the following into Google:
“dreamweaver cs3 crash initializing files”
and luckily this page was at the top of the list!!!!!
I have an ACER 6920G with a T8300 processor
Uninstalling “Acer E-Data Security Management” made it all work!!!
Thanks again and I hope other Acer users find this site
May 26th, 2008 at 10:57 am
@ Boydie - your welcome dude!
cheers!

Removing the Acer eData Security Management software worked! This problem was very frustrating. Spent hours on the phone with Adobe Tech support. I really hated PC makers’ pre-installed software before, this is just another reason. To try to help this fix go up in the search results, I’ll mention again that this fix worked for the issue of Dreamweaver CS3 getting stuck or locking up at the “Initializing Files” screen. THANKS!!
June 3rd, 2008 at 1:59 am
Wow! It’s amazing how many people have been affected by this problem! I’m glad I could help
June 10th, 2008 at 4:37 pm

pls i seek your aid, help this poor fella out!!! i beg you!!!
June 17th, 2008 at 7:50 pm
Thank you! Thank you!!
After trying to install and uninstall three different versions —
after downloading every frackin’ clean up utility —
I can’t believe it was so simple as uninstalling the blasted Acer eData Security Management.
There’s 4 hours of my life I’m never getting back.
Without you guys, I would be throwing this poor Acer out the window by now.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
BTW: I have 3 gigs of RAM on an Acer Aspire 5920G so the 4 gig thing is false.
June 18th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Thanks! I had to uninstall all of Acer’s Empowering Technology software, but I never used them anyway. I also have an Acer . (5403A) 4 gig ram, intel E2200 and vista home premium. tested out the install on my 2yr old acer laptop that did not come with the acer edata security or empowering technology software and it installed fine + works. must be something with that program.
thanks again
June 18th, 2008 at 11:50 pm
The 4gb isnt a problem. Every 32bit OS have limitations at memory addresses and “see” only 3,5gb. You must install 64bit OS to have up to 32gb of memory. But the 4gb in 32bit makes no problem.

Have you read this: http://sidapolinario.unicpinoy.com/2008/05/09/dreamweaver-cs3-some-emmerging-issues/
June 22nd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Well done! I have uninstalled the acer E data and Dreamweaver runs perfect! I have an Acer M3200.
The Only problem I have now is when you exit the program, an error comes up saying that dreamweaver has stopped working, a problem has occured and a button underneath that say “close the program”. click the button and it closes! This is just anoying, but as the program crashes out, it looses all the recent files information. Anyone had this problem?
June 25th, 2008 at 4:54 pm
OMG!
James, you are my hero for figuring out the Acer e-data security glitch.
No matter what I did, Dreamweaver would not open on my new Acer
5920G laptop, which came with Vista Home Premium. Adobe was useless…
I was ready to nuke and reload windows as my last resort. I went so far as to uninstall every Adobe program and deleted every Adobe reference manually and still couldn’t open Dreamweaver.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you,
Mary B.

Help!
I have the same problem but use a HP Elite 6600 with Intel quad core.
Any ideas?
Problem started after customizing spry

There is another option for those who do not want to uninstall Acer’s Empowering Technology software. You can go to EgisTec website for an updated version. (http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.html). I ran “Acer eDataSecurity Management v2.8″ and Dreamweaver ran. When I went to run “Patch of Acer eDataSecurity Management V3.0″, I got a message that it was not necessary. I didn’t see any indication as to what versions the patch applied. I recommend installing the v2.8 version for Vista because I’ve read early versions had problems with Vista.

I have the same problem , I have an Acer aspire 5610 , I uninstalled acer security e data. When i try to start up my dream weaver cs3, it freezes still. It used to work fine before i did a complete new format and install on my vista home premium.
July 4th, 2008 at 6:41 am
This is not only an Acer problem. I’m working on a home brewed Win XP desktop and I’m getting the same error.
July 4th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
The special ‘DreamWeaver’ patch from EgisTec solves the problem without uninstalling anything. EgisTec (who wrote the eDataSecurity Management program running on Acer laptops) updated their ‘update’ page on their website and it works. You can download the patch from: http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.html and all you need to do is to install it, and DreamWeaver will run without a problem.
I use: Acer TravelMate 6592, T7700, 4GB RAM, Windows Vista Business.
For people who are not using Acer laptops but experiencing a similar problem, it is possible that you have the same or similar security program (access control to files, locations etc.) that is causing the same problem. Check with the original software vendor or the manufacturer website driver/software updates.

Thanks James & Bill. Thanks for identifying the problem and provide solutions. I owned an Acer 6920G and experiencing the same problem. After I installed the patch “Acer eDataSecurity Management V3.0″ from
http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.html and rebooted the windows and voila, everything works fine after that. Highly recommend this solution to all acer and edatasecurity user.

I recently received a notice from ACER eSecurity Management, urging me to download this “fix”. But after reading the comments here, I decided not to do so.
