My Field Report : Anawangin Zambales, April 26-27 2008

I can’t believe that it’s over. March 14, 2008 we were just planning to go to Anawangin, Zambales. Now, we’ve already conquered the place.:) This is the first time that I experienced camping in the beach. I learned a lot of things, I thought I was so prepared for the camp, I just thought I was, but I’m wrong. At least next time, I know what to check ahead of time. Anyway here’s what happened in our Anawangin adventure.
*if you will be going to Anawanging with the same route as ours, you can use this as your reference.
Things to Bring (this is what we brought. remember: pack light
):
- Garbage Bag - bring enough for garbage and for your bag. (you’ll be using it once you ride the boat)
- Eating Utencils - Canteen, Spoon and fork (disposable is prefered), paper plates, cup (plastic, styro for hot water), portable stove set using butane (you can buy this in Ace Hardware, 900 php), butane for the stove, swiss knife or any portable knife.
- Food - Canned goods for group sharing, cup noodles, 3-1 coffee, bread, sandwich spread, cold cuts (hotdog, meat loaf)
- WATER - we impose a rule that each one should bring a minimum of 2 liters of water per person. (for drinking, cooking, and washing small utensils. )
- Flash Light, Head Lamp, Lamp - We need this at night. It’s dark. awooooo! I was able to buy a LED - head lamp in Ace Hardware for 149 pesos. It uses 3 AAA batteries and has several light modes. My friend advised me to buy this because it’s better to use at night. You can use both your hands for doing things.
- Mosquito Repellent - don’t let the mosquito and other insects bite you. You can buy Katol as well.
- Tent, sleeping Bag, Earth pads, hammock - kailangan pa bang imemorize yan??
- Rope - for hanging people este… wet clothes (Ace Hardware 35 pesos)
- Toiletries - Alcohol, shampoo, small soap, wet wipes (we’re not sure how the toilet looks yet), cotton buds, etc.. just bring what is necessary for an overnight camp.
- First Aid Kit - Parang boyscout lang dba? laging handa! woot woot!
did i miss something? If you need/want to bring extra stuff it’s up to you now. ![]()
The Day (yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!)
Day 1
April 26, 2007
This is out itinerary right after our Friday night shift. (call center you know
)
09:00 am - left office (OSMA, ortigas). We’re heading to Victory Liner in Caloocan City.
09:30 am - arrived at Victory Liner in Caloocan City. (click the link to view their site)
As of April 26, 2008
Bus Fare to Sta Cruz, Zambales = P222 per person
10:30 am - Departure from Caloocan Station
11:50 am - Stop Over at Lubao. “Double Happiness”
01:10 pm - Stop Over at Bajac Bajac Victory Liner Station in Olonggapo. More passengers may ride on the bus at this point.
02:20 pm - Arrival at San Antonio Zambales.
Landmarks in San Antonio Zambales:
03:30 pm - Arrived at Pundaquit. The resorts are lined up in this area. You can inquire for the boat ride fare going to Anawangin, Zambales from these resorts.

This is the scene in front of the Pundaquit Beach in Zambales. We’re waiting for our boat. You see that island? That’s our next destination. Camara daw yan! kala ko Capones. July baby!
Boat Fare: 250 per person (to Anawangin and back). That’s a good deal. I believe that most of the Boatmen offers the same boat fare to all.
Contact Person: Mang Henry 09266726070
04:00 pm - We’re on the boat. Please take note that not all boats have life vest. We paid 6k for 6 boats (24 people) . The Boats are small. Some can carry 4, some 3, 1 can carry 10. By the way, 1 of the boats carries all the luggages. This is where the Garbage bag is useful. We put our bags inside the garbage bags so it will not get wet during the trip.
The trip is a bit wavy, but the view is majestic. This is what I’m missing for the last 25 years of my life??? The view is really awesome.
04:30 pm - We arrived at anawangin’s shore. A big Whoa! I didn’t expect that there will be lot of people this weekend. I thought we’ll just see a group or two.
Sand is greyish and soft.
We haven’t set up our tents, We haven’t changed our clothes and then the rain poured. So much hassle. We’re so wet because of the rain. Another hassle, I just removed my slippers
Camp site: We found a good spot to camp. There are two areas to camp. The first one charges 150 per person per day and the other one charges 50 bucks only. We get the 50 pesos per day of course. The difference between the two is the 150php area has flags
:)
isn’t that great?
Anyway, both have 2 manual water pumps (poso) and 2 toilets and 2 dressing room. The walls are made using tall grass. I don’t know what it’s called. Dayame ata. ![]()
We tried to set up our tents as fast as we can because it’s hard to set it up in the dark. There’s no electricity in this place. That’s why you need to bring your own lamps.
I didn’t check the tent that I brought. It has no vestibule, how come I didn’t double check that one. Another hassle. It’s good thing that I bought 10 garbage bags. I was able to use 5 as a make-shift vestibule. It just looks funny because our tent looks like a squatter. LOL!
Night time:
We prepared dinner. We share food, we grill and cook some canned goods. It’s great. ![]()
Me and Boo are supposed to join them in drinking. We tried to get a rest and planned to wake up by 12 midnight. And maybe because we’re so tired that we didn’t notice that it’s already dawn.
So To wrap up day 1, we only spend Php410.00. Asteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeg!
(To break it down, 120 cab to victory liner caloocan, Bus to Zambales Php222.00, Tryc Php23.00, Water( Php45.00)
Day 2
Programme:

(The albums contain some of our team’s adventures and gimmicks as well.)
We left the place at around 1 pm and we’re heading back to Pundaquit Beach. We made sure we didn’t leave any garbage around. The place is beautiful to put litter on.
Town Fiesta
Because of the town fiesta, we need to walk 6 blocks to ride an ordinary bus to Victory Liner Olonggapo (35php).
When we reach Olonggapo, we decided to eat dinner before we ride the bus. There are several restaurants around the vicinity of the terminal. (KFC, Chowking…)
Victory Liner from gapo to Cubao is 177pesos. 180+ if you’re bound to Pasay. The bus will have a stop over again at Double Happiness.
09:00pm- we arrived at Victory Liner Cubao.
I arrived in Las Pinas at around 11pm. I was so tired then. This adventure is so fun. I’ll look forward to conquering Camara and Capones by July.
The total cost for this adventure is less than 2k. The beach is as great as Galera, err, less the box jellies. ![]()
I hope this post can help somehow for those who’re planning to go to the place. Please send me comments for any corrections about any inconsistencies about the place. (Tao lang po
) Ultimately, I really hope that somehow you find this post helpful. God Bless.
and the hunt goes on…
Sid

Wow! Great FR, Sir! Thanks to your FR, we can plan ahead for our upcoming trip to Anawangin this May 3.
I have some questions though, did you cook rice in there? I heard that you can ask the boatman to cook rice for you at a certain fee. I just don’t know how much.
How was the toilet?
Gaano po katagal yung travel time from Pundaquit to Olongapo?
Thanks again. More power to your site!

@wendy - hehehe pwede din yun.. hihi.. happy wednesday too! thanks for dropping by.
Hindi ko lang sure na you can ask the boatmen to cook rice for you. IF plan nyo naman na hindi rice all through out your stay, pwede din bumili na kayo ng cooked rice sa palengke for the first day there.

@Sherlock - Hi, i’m glad na na appreciate mo yung field report. Yuh we cooked rice there using the canteen na dala namin.
As for the toilet - hehehe… err..
Salamat! exchange link? wehehehe
